Dispatcher Salary

At Trucking Agents we are motivated by your success. As a commission earning dispatcher you set your revenue goals and own expectations. Although the industry average dispatcher salary is around $38,000, this average is weighted to highly trained and experienced dispatchers. You should expect to make less as a beginner dispatcher with little to no experience. Good news prevails, however, and Trucking Agents is going to teach you how to make more than the industry average.

Dispatcher Commissions

First, being paid commission is not for everyone. It takes a certain type of individual who will want to earn a commission. A hourly wage or salary is less risky, therefore, it can benefit someone who is not motivated to build there own business or is not rewarded by working harder and smarter. A dispatcher who is entrepreneurial minded, who is dedicated to working and learning an industry, and looking to make above industry average pay is the type of individual who will look at being paid a commission as a positive opportunity.

Dispatcher Goals

The importance of setting goals are many, but knowing what types of goals to set is very important. It's not just about setting a revenue goal. You want to set goals that will lead you on a path to more revenue. How are you going to reach your revenue goals? When you think of your goals as steps to achieving your revenue goals, then you have specific steps you can follow.
I want to earn $X amount a week.

Goal Setting

Consider the steps you must do to get to your weekly revenue goals. Some goals you might consider:
  • I'm going to call X number of my drivers today.  Have some questions you want answered when you speak with them. Questions about their business like equipment, service lanes, rates, etc are all useful information when providing dispatching service.

  • I want to call X number of new drivers today.  Reaching out to new drivers gives you more revenue earning opportunities.  Have a list of bullet points you want to discuss with any new driver.

  • I want to create X number of load searches.  Each load search not only gives you load opportunities to book on your network of drivers, but gives you a better understanding of rates, lanes, and customer contacts.

  • I want to connect with X number of customers today.  Let customers who have the freight know about what you do and what trucks your have available in your network to assist in moving their freight. Sign up for load lists that are sent to your email or perhaps create a login to view private load availability boards.

  • I want to post X number of trucks today.  Posting a truck on a truck availability board not only will bring you load opportunities, but will bring you future customers and contacts.  Have a method in place to add your customer contacts and the  type of freight they offer for future reference.
There are all kinds of goals you can set that will help you earn your revenue goals. Focus on the steps you can take to earn more revenue then just setting a revenue goal by itself.

Dispatcher Success

Success means different things for different people. It's not always about the money that will make you either successful or happy. Consider these ideas of success:
  • Increased Revenue

  • Work From Home

  • Flexible Hours

  • Your Own Boss
Your dispatcher salary is a big motivation for most people, but it's generally not everything. Set your most important priorities, build a plan and set the goals necessary to achieve those goals. Remember, set your goals for the steps needed to be successful. Once you start meeting these goals, then your dispatcher salary goals will be achieved.
